Actually I think the stroker kit is a great way to go! When you have your engine combo figured out, give TA a call and have them grind a custom cam for you. You will like the results.

I'm almost done tearing down my 455 and I'm now begining to think about the build up. I'm looking make a nice street/strip car out of the 1967 Skylark that I'm dropping it in. I don't really care too much about gas mileage and would like to get a farely quick strip car without spending a rediculous amount on it.
So I won't be pushing much over 500hp if that.
I have heard that BBB's are renouned for bad oiling. For the type of car that I'm building will I need any special modifications to make it last? I'm looking at getting the 494 stroker kit from Year One. Heads and Cam from TA.. new pan, not sure what brand yet. This is the main performance stuff that will be done, will I need to do anything else and is a stroker kit a good idea?
O ya, and its a 1974 block.
*edit* totally forgot the intake and headers.. probably either an edelbrock or TA intake and TA headers

They have made an error! I wonder how long it will take for them to figure it out...

There's someone selling them on eBay for $34.95. Here's the link:

And Jim Burek sells them over at P.A.E. for $24.95:

For P.A.E.'s web sight, select "Products Index" at the top left of the page, then scroll down about 2/3 of the way and select "Browse Catalog".

read both of these pages

consider TA's aluminum timing cover: http://www.taperformance.com/Timing.htm
definitely get the grooved cam bearings: http://www.taperformance.com/accessor2.htm
you might also want to do something like jim burek's (over at PAE) coatings for your main bearings. but for less than an all out race motor the oil passage mods and cam bearings will probably be enough.

as far as amazon goes, that doesn't look like they (amazon proper) have the book in stock to me. it appears that you would be purchasing it from one of their affiliated used book resellers and that's the lowest price any of their resellers are stocking it at.
