"claim" is not appropriate. Mr Manner had the dyno to test and prove the HP. That is science.

Over and over iv'e read that the true output on the 70 455 Stage1 was 400 to 420hp. and also heard Mr. Manner claim it was 376 hp.
Iv'e also come come across that the Stage1 package only added something like 16hp. over the base 455.
Factory fresh Stage1 car's time slips do indicate it could be 400hp.+ but as Mr. Manner quoted the Stage1 package was just that, carefully chosen pieces and settings that benefited off each other like the trannie shifting points, 3.64 rear and optimum timing to make it run that fast off the showroom floor, plus lot's of torque
If they would to take 10 random Stage1 engines of the assembly line "which didn't suppose to have the best tollerances" what would be the average HP and TQ spec's?
As much as iv'e tried I only have found one U tube video of a built to stock spec Stage1 dyno test and even then it had roller rockers but a lowered compression ratio down to 8.5 to 1 or 9 to 1. All else stock but after 3 pulls it just managed 400 hp. and 507ft.lbs
I'm sorry I know this has been asked 1000's of times but I still can't find a good true power number

Factory HP ratings were total B.S. in most cases. Chevrolet rated their LS6 454 in 1970 at 450 HP. So how come a 1970 Buick GS 455 stage 1 has virtually the same track performance?

I'm thinking alot more torque and coming in at a lower 2800rpm? and the whole Stage 1 package it's self. Still though yes i'm thinking the B.S.
So the LS6's is overrated or the Stage underrated more? and a bit of both?
Larry iv'e been following your V8.Buick forum on the Dynamic and Static Compression teachings and understanding the factory's loose and kinda sloppy tolerances. Somewhere at sometime I had read that they had 10 or 20 Stage1 engines the factory had dyno tested and the 376hp was the lowest output and they went with that.
In all your building years what can you give me as for your results
I have never built an engine myself, but the engine that came with my car was a 9.4:1 SCR running a KB118 cam. It had a low DCR (7.1), stock Stage1 heads, stock intake, MT headers. It ran through the traps consistently at 101 MPH. It weighed 4200 lbs. + with me in it.
It isn't hard to find road test articles of the day where the Stage1 would run 13's and trap over 100 MPH.
