dawned on me,i called the buick experts ta p and they said 12-15 psi idle 650rpm is good normal.and good psi jump at throttle.so i'm good.i'm 15psi at 180-190.deg been looking forward to using this guy here.
new to the buick big blocks.i just did my" by the book" run-in on my "re-built"and corrected re-re-built 455,smooth running success!after a clogged fuel tank line fix,a glob of tar, rubber and grease stuck on the tail pipe bends, from an oil spill in the trunk, stinky and smokey. i drained a quart of oil out after running yesterday to check for any metal debris. now i'm confused about the touchy subject of proper buick oil pressure at normal factory idle, full temp at 180-190.some say 10psi huhhh!???some say 15-20 psi ok?? and 40+psi-up at 2000+rpms? whats normal for a basic rebuilt 1973 455 60 over. new cam new-stock type oil pump which i did prime, 10w30 valvoline vr-1 oil.a quality,non-fram filter.all exact bearing specs, otherwise everything to correct "Tight"specs? i know some say too much psi is bad right?

15 PSI at 190 at 650 RPM with 10W-30 is great pressure. Lower than that wouldn't bother me either.
Some people say that 10 PSI per 1000 RPM is "normal". I don't think the low-pressure switch kicks on until either 3 or 5 PSI, I forget. But in any case, you're well within range.
Do you know what clearances were used on the rods and mains? That's where most machine shops go wrong, they put Chevy clearances into a Buick engine, and Buicks like much tighter clearances.
