I think I would try identifying the motor first. Here is what we have for transmissions:

I have a trans I think is a sp T-400 but the #'s don't work out The id plate reads KJ-68-1636 It is bolted behind a nailhead does anyone know what I have

what is the outside differance between a t-300 and a t-400 trans.my trans looks the same as a t-400 I've had them side by side the ID #'s are what is confusing mine are KJ-68-1636.It will bolt to the late (364-401-425) block

The Nailhead ST-300 (65-66) has NK stamped on the servo cover on the RH side followed by a two place year code and them a three number date code. It would look like this: NK-XX-XXX. Below is a picture of my ST300:

Thanks for the pic's of the T-300 trans, my trans doesn't look like that, What I have must be a VP T400 but the #'s on the tag just don't jive, could it have been a factory replacement, how could I tell?
