    Rebuild $$$$$$$

I'm considering upgrading my v6 to a 455 in my 64 special and this would be a daily driver. If I was to rebuild a stock 455 maybe boring out and maybe bumping the compression up a little about what price range should I expect to be out of with me doing the work myself. I'm not trying to make it to the race track. I have some small block chevy's around but it would be nice to have buick with buick if I don't break the bank.

Do you mean that you would be doing the machine work yourself? In that case, are you just interested n the cost of parts?

Do you already have a rebuildable 455 or would you have to buy one?

I assume you would also have to include some "other" parts like motor mounts & frame brackets, some exhaust work (done by an exhaust shop), and that sort of stuff - or can you do your own exhaust work too?

No I don't have a 455 block as of now, I meant that I would be putting the engine togather. I don't have any means of boring out so I would be headin down to the machine shop. I've been quoted $500.00 for a rebuildable 455 and 400 trans, long shaft he thinks it's early 70s but not sure. Another quote is 375.00 for 455 complete motor and trans. He said possible came out of 72 regal. I didn't know it buick made a regal that year, but I'm new to buicks.

That 64 Special would be easy to set up with a Buick 350 and you can probably find a good running complete car for under $1,000.00 that would provide everything needed to change it over. Most of these will run forever with just a set of rocker arm shafts and a new timing gear unless the get too hot.

    Teeman,

Most "stock" rebuilds that we do machine work on run in the neighborhood of $800 in machine shop labor, plus whatever parts are needed. This is machine work only and does not include disassembly & assembly of the engine. Mainly cleaning the block, boring it, installing cam bearings and freeze plugs, regrinding the crank, r & r pistons, rework heads.

    Rebuilding

I am currently having my 400 rebuilt. Bored 30 over new comp cam. I have a buddy who works at a machine shop but sidelines in his own shop. He does excellent work and I am around $2300 for the complete rebuild. Been 30 years since I rebuilt an engine so I decided to give it to the pros.
