56 Century door glass removal

Hi. I'm restoring our old 56 Century 4 door hardtop. I can't locate anywhere the proper procedure to remove and replace the regulators and glass on this model. It doesn't show up in the resources on this site and nowhere else that i have been searching. The rear ones are particularly difficult to remove, especially when the regulators are frozen up from sitting for years.
Thanks

I am not acquainted with a 56 but working on door glass is a pain. Try to save the interior. Then maybe you can remove the screws or bolts that hold regulator in place. Then either lower or raise the window and disconnect it from the slider. This could take a couple days as soaking everything in WD-40 will probably be necessary. If everything is beyond salvage then cut it apart. I saw a 56 Century convertible in a barn a couple years ago and then that big fire went through Detroit Oregon a year ago and that barn is completely destroyed. Hopefully the car was gone before that.

I'm getting them out but I was hoping that there would be an instruction manual that walks you through the procedures to get everything back in again once i get new glass and the regulators all freed up and working like new again. I downloaded several pages a couple of years ago here that walked me through the same on my 65 Wildcat convertible but i can't find the same for the 56 4 door HT.

Fran,
Back then the detailed body service information was published in periodic looseleaf newsletters. These were called Body by Fisher Service News. They are not that easy to locate nowadays.

Here is a thread from the AACA forums describing the issue covering senior (C-body) Buicks for '56. All the links seem to be dead. I was not able to track down a copy of this one. There should be some newsletters for the junior (B-body) '56 Buicks as well. The next best thing would be the editions for junior '55 Buicks. Newsletters do turn up for sale on eBay sometimes. I have several that were in miscellaneous literature lots, just not the ones needed here.

Here is the one for the '56 Chevy (A- body) 4-door hardtop which may be useful. This body type was exclusive to Olds and junior Buicks in '55. No doubt this initial Chevy style drew on the design of the '55s.

Thanks so much for this information. The second one here, the four door sports sedan manual seems to be basically the same. The rear window information should be quite helpful when i try to put this back together again. There is also a lot of other useful information that I can use as well.

I found that when I needed more info for my 56, I would look in the 55 shop manual and then
in the 57. The complete window mechanism is in the 57.
I have power windows in my 56 Roadmaster 4 dr htp.
