1959 Buick how to change a front pump seal on a Dynaflow transmission?

The transmission's front pump seal is leaking badly. Workshop manual says to pull back the rear axle and remove the trans. Is its easier to remove the radiator and shift the motor forward. Does anyone have any advice on this?

The converter is NOT anything else you may be used too.
It has to come apart piece by piece in order to replace the seal.
Pay attention & use a shop manual as there are certain ways things come apart & get re-installed.
MOST importantly pay attention & follow the instructions in the manual.
You could try & tighten/check the torque on the many nuts on the converter.
You could also try to put a pint of Dex!!! brake fluid into the trans.
This helps to swell the seals & rubber pieces slightly & MAY just swell the seals & rubber parts so they don't leak any longer.

Tom has some good suggestions. If one seal is leaking others will too. Be aware that are two of many sources for transmission parts, in the west coast is Transmatic and east coast you have Northwest parts.

Pulling the rear axle back is no big deal. I had to do it to my '52 Super in order to rebuild the torque ball, many, many years ago.
