Thanks Tom, I was under the impression that R12 was illegal.
Now all I have to do is find someone who will do it. The one I called wouldn't.
But since It hasn't run for such a long time do I need any new components?
I have a 1966 Riviera that has been in storage for 25 years and I have restored everything except the AC.
I would like to get that working, can someone tell me what I will need besides finding a local AC mechanic who will make the conversion from R12 to R134? It looks like I can get parts from...
Thanks everyone ! I finally got the time to methodically track down the problem.
By removing fuses that had power to them when the key was turned off.
Low and behold the glove compartment light switch was the Culpit. Closing the door did not push it in far enough to turn the light off.
Thanks Tom,
When I disconnect the battery it stays charged.
When I put an ammeter between the battery ground post and the ground cable I get a .29 amp draw.
My 1966 Riviera battery gets drained when not in use even though everything is turned off.
Looking for ideas for ways to troubleshoot and find the cause of this problem.
Just wondering if anyone has had experience with removing gauges from the dashboard.
I know the instructions tell you how to do it but they attach to a plastic ribbon connector and just wondering if there is anything to be concerned about when changing the gauges.
Thanks to all of you. The battery cables are secure and well grounded. I can't figure out from the wiring diagram how voltage gets to the fuse block and whether a main fuse is there. I was trying to start the engine when everything went dead.
To me the value is in the original 1966 Riviera not the add-on smog system.
It's ugly looking and detracts from the beauty of the 425.
It must have been designed by a plumber and it's even imposible to change the water thermostate without great difficulty in removing the brackets.
Why anyone...
I need to replace the exhaust system on my 1966 Riviera. What's a good reliable source for a complete kit? Should I go Aluminum or Stainless steel? should I add resonators (it doesn't have them now)? Would appreciate advice from anyone who has replaced their exhaust system in Buicks of this era.
When I take my 1966 Riv to the garage for an oil change I get conflicting recomendations from guys who have older cars.
What is the best choice for my nailhead? Also I run on high octane gas - should I add anything to it upon fill up?
