    Hi,

I finally got a chance to do a little work on the car this weekend. It looks like one of the spark plug wires (for cylinder 5) may be bad. I got a resistance about 10x as high as the rest of the wires. So I will try and replace these next.

    Regards

    Ooops,

I almost forgot. There is a brief article in the Sept 2018 issue of Street Rodder on a mod someone did swapping out their Dynaflow and rear end on their 56 Buick. I don't usually read Street Rodder, but picked it up for the article the other day.

    Hi,

    Yeah, that's the one.

I also just received my new spark plug wires (and a big thick catalog) from Brillman today and I also purchased a new 10" air cleaner, so hopefully I might be able to swap out these parts this weekend, if all goes well.

    Hi,

Although it rained alot this weekend, I did get a chance to swap out the spark plug wires, open up the disributor, pull the battery and swap out the air cleaner (mostly - I need a new tie down bolt). Overall, although the battery is about 5 years old, it really hasn't sen alot of service (especially over the last two years or so) so I'm going to try and see if it will take (and hold) a charge this next weekend. Overall the inside of the distributor doesn't look too bad, but I haven't done a close inspection yet. I also want to re-pull the spark plugs and adjust the gap on two of them (which were just a bit off from the rest) and make sure that the types are relatively clean of soot and such before finishing up on them.

After that hopefully I can next get to the fuel system and check to see if things look ok there.

    Hi,

I was able to swap out the spark plug wires and get everything all put back together and cleaned up. But it appears that my battery needs to be replaced, so I have ordered a new one, which should be available for pickup tomorrow. So, I am hoping to see if I can get the engine to turn over sometime this week.

thought your issue was "would not crank" why messing with this other stuff? I would break each system down one at a time and troubleshoot from there. reference the 52 shop manual up in the Reference! tab.

yeah, lead acid batteries don't like to sit for long periods. they'll discharge just sitting there.
