Thread: Identify your transmission bell

'68 Skylark GS 400 with 3spd Manual Transmission

Did Buick ever use a Ford 3 speed manual transmission. I noticed in this thread comments and pictures of BOPC bells with GM and Ford trans patterns. I have a '68 Buick Skylark Convertible with a Ford 3 speed manual trans and just figured that someone had changed it. Now I don't know.

    Thanks,

various models from both GM and Ford ( as well as others ) used Borg-Warner T-10's.

i don't know whether your particular model came with such a trans, but it would certainly have GM stamping on it from the factory, not Ford.

if you start a new thread and post pics of the trans there will probably be someone who can id it for you.

added BOPC and Chevrolet bell pattern blueprints to post #4 on the first page of this thread.

it amuses me that someone downrated this thread so it only shows 3 stars now.

Buick, Olds and Pontiac all offered the Ford 3 speed top-loader behind their larger V-8s from 1964 up until about 1969-70 when GM started making the Muncie SM-330 heavy duty 3 speed. GM manuals always referred to this box as a "Dearborn" transmission because they couldn't bring themselves to use the F-word. However, all the transmissions I have seen clearly said "FoMoCo" on them.

Chevy alone used a Borg Warner T-16 behind their big blocks when a 3 speed was called for. The T-16 had the normal Chevy bolt pattern, so Chevy bellhousings needed only the one set of holes.
