Thanks for clarifying guyopel. As for "the late reply", I think overnight service is pretty speedy. I'll report back later. Thanks again,

Scott , the ans. is yes .. just jump from the field terminal and you can use it at the regulator or at the gen.to ground ( any part of the car or even the Gen. case) with the car running ..if there is still not output ..it's a Gen, problem ..if it has output then it's a regulator or wiring to or from Gen . The field terminal is marked with an F .. all this is in shop manuals for most all cars with a Gen. so if you donot have a Buick book you can check them .. Sorry for the late reply. HTH Guyopel

I tested the genereator as instructed by runing a jump wire from the field terminal to the body. When the wire is connected, I am getting a charge reading on my meter, so now I can assume my generator is good, and I believe my wires are ok. I assume this means the voltage regulator is the problem, correct? Now I need some info about voltage regulators. I used the search function but didn't find the answers I need so I am going to start a new thread about regulators.
scott
Yes time to look at the regulator..

If one of the relay coils is bad in your regulator, it won't charge. I have a bunch of non-working spares for one of my cars. It burns up about 1 per year. You can probably get a new one from Napa or you might try to find a local generator/starter shop. They're usually pretty cheap and eliminate the guess work.

Hey Scott
I would think as Mark (G/***** of Fire) just stated thatyou should be able to pick one up or order on a Napa.
Howerer is is IMPORTANT that You pick up the Correct part for Chub-Chubs particular application. There are lots out there and they all appear to LQQK the same from the outside.
You don't want to install the wrong one and wind up cooking wires, relays and other components.
