do i have to remove any thing to replace the serpentine belt on a 99 buick 3800 series ll ? other than the old belt of course... i havent tried yet but it seems like there are things prohibiting replacement without removing them...

If it's not supercharged I would think the only thing you would need to do is put a socket on your belt tensioner and release some tension and the belt should come right off. My car has the supercharger so I had to remove that belt first in my case and to get to the engine belt I think I removed my strut tower brace across the top of the engine, the coolant bottle (held on by the 2 nuts on top) and I also moved the fuse box I marked both parts in red in the pic. I think I also did it once with an open wrench, but it was a tight fit with that coolant bottle. This was the best pic I had of the area. I already had the strut tower brace removed when I was doing the rockers.

You can do the change but be ready to get your hand stuck once or twice while doing it,they don't leave much room to change it if you have meats for hands.Personally I hate to change them because my meats are so big it's hard to reach it there to lace the belt in the lower part.Use a good light when doing this because it can be tricky to get the belt to stay on the lower pullies while lacing it.

You will have to remove the eng. mount and support the engine and remove the lower nut and stud on the lower bracket . HTH This can be difficult !!
