    open driveline

61 was the first year for open driveline for Buick. There are lots of options for you to chose from---all cost a lot of money and TIME. One option is to get a Caprice 91 frame or complete car to do your chassis swap. Another is to change out your closed driveline using different rear end and tranny---adapters are out there for hooking up TH400 or 700R to the nailheads---lots of sheetmetal fabrication in the tunnel area to fit the new trannys in. Your old column shift will not work as the shift pattern is different with the new tranny. Gas pedal linkage may have to be changed to suspended style, to accomadate the fit of the new tranny---I have done all these updates on my 57 Special---do alot of research, ask alot of questions from the people who have done this in your area and the speed shops too. Then proceed withyour best option and cost. Good Luck!!!
