our 350 casting numbers are, how you say, sparse.
more helpful would be the 2 digit engine code found between the front drivers side spark plug, or here:

this number is stamped into the face of the block and is often very faint and obsured by oil and grime. you may need to clean the area with gas or wire brush it or something.

[scratches head]
somehow your other thread got locked.
anyway, you say you have an intake # of '1249169'. '1249168' is an intake for 1975 so coupled with the EIN i'm fairly comfortable in saying this is a 1976 motor.
for 76 350, the original block paint should be Buick Red. 77 and up would be GM Corporate Blue.
the 76 engines have lower compression than the 68-70 motors but i believe that's recent enough to have the much stronger cap screw con-rods that the earlier engines didn't have.

the casting number is 46b116775 sorry about that . it is a 5 bolt pattern on the valve covers i. i have not found a two digit letter code i thought i was going to be in front of the production number i found between the 1st and 2nd plugs but it was just 562 with no letters before it and the 240 i found below on the block that did not have any letter either.

'76 engines were corporate blue, i have had a 350, and several 455's this way

doh!
you know having been spouting that for over a year you'd think i'd have that memorized by now.

both 75 and 76 455's should be blue as they were built in the Olds engine plant.

first of all thank you for your help ...the distributer cap is located on the driver side front looking straight at the engine . the production # between the 1st and 2nd plug is 562 there is a # 240 below that on the block there is a # 46b116775 front other side of block # back by transmission is 1241748 the # behind the carb is 1249169-3 with a dy under it any help would be appreciated.
i have not been able to find a two digit engine code. the bolt pattern is 6 bolt not five sorry i have bad typing skills the engine shows blue but it has been repainted i can tell by all the sanding i have been doing
Told you a picture would help tremendously. Buick 350, vintage '76 or newer. Better rods with better bolts. Low compression, notice 4 bbl. Q-JET, HEI. Bolt-in swap for V-6.
