Dont worry- they can do that- you need to make sure you clean the bolt holes thoroughly
you probaably have accumulated crap in the one bolt hole
I have just purchased a 425/401 nailhead engine that I am planning on rebuilding. When I removed the water pump and timing cover water started pouring out of the engine block bolt hole for the timing cover on the passenger side below the crossover return. It did not leak water on the same bolt hole on the drivers side. Is this common for the nailheads or does this indicate a water jacket problem?

nailheads forever
Thanks. I am putting the motor, a 400 switch pitch and a 12 bolt posi into a 1950 Buick and I am going to have the engine stripped, cleaned, and completely rebuilt anyway so that should take care of it. It looked like rust water anyway so it probably is clogged up.
I had the same thing happen to me (just a few hours ago, believe it or not) and I freaked when i pulled the same bolt ( passenger side, middle bolt, the bolt just under where the fuel pump bolts on) and I had water(clean with antifreeze) come out of that hole. So I assume that this is normall because we both had the same thing happen. If your wondering why i am pulling timing cover is , I broke a few bolts off taking the water pump off .
These bolts always break or seize on nailheads. The best thing I have found is to use stainless steel bolts with anti sieze compound.
