We're in the process of doing 2 "Nailheads". One is finished (a Ross- Piston / Howards-Rods 3.750" Stroker) and ready for delivery, the second job will be started in a short while. If anyone out there is interested in doing a "serious" Nailhead, you may want to consider (in the head area) having your machine shop stepping the guides down to 11/32 stems and installing a set of
"custom" SBC valves. In our job the stock lengths went right in the heads at the right heights for lifter preload. The face of the intake valves are 1.880" and the exhausts are 1.560" (both are 4.900" long). The lengths worked out due to the valve configuration. The customer however, supplied adjustable rocker arms and we had the "Smith Brothers" make us a set of custom length pushrods (.312" x .049" x 8.375") for this first unit, thereby eliminating the need for an adjustable set. We did set everything up to use the "stock-aluminum" rockers and the stock pushrods. He has the option of using either setup without any add'l head work. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. We ended up using a "Schneider" hydraulic cam along with a set of stock lifters, dual valve springs, Speed-Pro (1/16" x 1/16" x 1/8") file fit rings, and SBC "doweled" rod bearings. It's all destined for a lite-weight "fuel-injected" street-rod.
