that's the modern placement ... older VIN's are found in other locations depending on manufacturer and year.

you have a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), a body number (found on your trim tag) and an EIN (Engine Identification Number).

your VIN should be on a plate attached to the left front door hinge pillar. it should also be stamped on the left front of the engine block although it may be obscured by accessories.

your trim tag is on a plate riveted to the cowl a little left of center, under the hood.

your EIN should be stamped on the right front of the engine block, opposite the VIN.

your trim tag info would provide us with the most useful info about your car.

If your VIN plate is missing, you will have to take the car to your state patrol. They will use the hidden VIN numbers which are all over the car where you would never find them to identify your car. They will then affix a new VIN plate on your car.

The numbers are hidden so well that they need a book on where to find them as they are in different places for different makes and models.

They also will not let you watch while they seek out the hidden numbers.

    Lightbulb Hidden vin codes

I think that you are referring to most modern vehicles not a 1964 Buick Riviera.

you would still be able to reconstruct the VIN from the trim tag and EIN.

One would have to find out through the State Patrol but as I recall, hidden codes have been around since the fifties and on a high end vehicle like a Rivie, Caddie, etc I would assume they would have hidden codes because of the high theft rates.
