that's the modern placement ... older VIN's are found in other locations depending on manufacturer and year.
you have a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), a body number (found on your trim tag) and an EIN (Engine Identification Number).
your VIN should be on a plate attached to the left front door hinge pillar. it should also be stamped on the left front of the engine block although it may be obscured by accessories.
your trim tag is on a plate riveted to the cowl a little left of center, under the hood.
your EIN should be stamped on the right front of the engine block, opposite the VIN.
your trim tag info would provide us with the most useful info about your car.
