    1973 Riviera Vin and Body Plate Decode

    Hi everyone,

    Im new to this site and i have 2 1973 Buick Riviera's. One is a GS and the other is standard, but both of them have their unique qualities.

    here are the codes, I was wondering if any one can help me decode these Vin#'s and Body Codes.

    Thanks
    Nick

    Vin#1 : 4Y87U3H484021

    Body Plate #1:

    ST73 4EY87FL1 154900 BDY
    TR 696 81 R PNT
    1A AT7

    Vin#2 : 4Y87U3H424550

    Body Plate #2:

    ST73 4EY82FL1 044666 BDY
    TR 7695 74 A PNT
    09E AT7

  2. #2
    4 Y 87 U 3 H 484021
    4 = buick
    Y = Riviera
    87 = 2 dr sport coupe (riv specific)
    U = 455 4v dual exhaust
    3 = 1973
    H = Flint, MI
    484021 = production serial #, are you certain these ser #'s begin with a '4' and not a '9'? most years Riv production starts at '900001' and goes up

    ST73 4EY87FL1 154900 BDY
    ST73 = 1973
    4 = buick
    EY = riviera
    87 = 2dr sport coupe
    FL1 = Flint, MI
    154900 BDY = body serial #

    TR 696 = saddle interior, maybe leather? book lists two codes for this line but doesn't differientiate between leather/cloth
    81 = yellow beige paint
    R PNT = dark brown vinyl top
    1A = jan, first week production
    AT7 = unknown

    4 Y 87 U 3 H 424550
    4 = Buick
    Y = Riviera
    87 = 2 dr sport coupe
    U = 455 4v dual exhaust
    3 = 1973
    H = Flint, MI
    424550 = production serial #

    ST73 4EY82FL1 044666 BDY
    ST73 = 1973
    4 = buick
    EY = Riviera
    82 = should be 87, no convert option available this year, 2 dr sport coupe
    FL1 = Flint, MI
    044666 BDY = body serial #

    TR 7695 = trim code is 3 digits, 695 would be white, i don't know what the '7' is
    74 = burgundy paint
    A PNT = white vinyl top to go with the interior
    09E = Sept, 5th week production
    AT7 = unknown

    should be some nice boat tails you've got there. the second one looks to be very early in the production run (Sept. 72 production of the 73 cars)

    Bob,

    Thanks so much for the information.....Ill post some pictures when i find time. Both of the Rivs run and drive, the GS needs rear lower quarters and some trunk patches. the other Riv was in a barn for 7 years, the interior is in great shape and body is decent.

    Im sure ill be posting more questions, cause i have restored lots of cars but i havent tackled a 73 boattail before
