Buick Trans Input Shaft Question

*Hey guys I'm not sure of the best place for this question so I am posting it here as well as the pre 50 section*

Hey guys, just out of curiosity, would a chevrolet clutch fit on the input shaft of an early Buick 3 speed, like a 39? The reason I ask is that a buddy of mine is throwing together a 50's style Hot Rod with hot little 283 and is backing it up with a what we believeis a 39(maybe later) 3spd. He has all the adapters, we figured youd have to run a Chevy flywheel and a Buick clutch, but I got curious about a chevy clutch fitting a buick shaft. If it all works out it will be a cool trans for a traditional hot rod, it turns out that buick trannys were almost as popular as the Caddy LaSalle boxes and just as stout.

The clutch disc should fit. Watch the trans tho, the one for the 40 series is no stronger than a Chevy. The big ones are as strong as Caddy, but the side shift ones ('39 and up) are selector boxes and need special shifter. You can put the floor shift top on the '39 box ('40 on '40 big on big). The mounting bolt pattern on the front is also different.-Jim

Yeah i realized that, he has the smaller box, but the motor is only a 283 that will probably only make 200 horsepower.
