Excessive crankshaft/camshaft bearing clearance.
Are you taking your reading next to the oil filter? Are you using a good quality reliable gauge? 5lbs at idle would indicate much wear and rebuild necessary.
When my 215 is cold, I get 60 psi at idle. When it is hot, I get about 5 psi. I have the high volume pump kit installed and I am running Mobile 1 oil 10/40 weight. I know that oil thins when hot, but that much?? If I have a problem in the motor, where would be the best place to start looking???

The engine has been doing this since the rebuild. WHen I did the overhaul, I plasti-guaged the mains and everyhing looked good. Because of space constraints, I run a remote oil filter, and read the pressure at the filter. The guage is an autometer mechanical. I hope the motor isn't bad...that would be a real downer. Seems strange that I get 60+ lbs. at cold idle...
