Does anybody know where I can buy a new or a rebuild (from a shop) rochester quadrajet for my 455 V8 from 1970?

You might want to try John Osborn Performance. He does Q-Jet work and is highly recommended. His ph # is 270 769 1814. He might have some carbs down there for sale without a core. He is in Elizabethtown Kentucky.

    Dear Koos,
You are such a lucky man...... completely spoilt for choice in terms of carbs for your 455.
    Try Scoggins Dickey www.sdpc2000.com
    # E1901 Edelbrock 750 qjet @ $449.95
    # E1910 Edelbrock Performer RPM 850 qjet @$489.95
Alternatively if you want to change to square bore they can offer:
    HO 3310c Holley 750 4160 @ $256.95
    H65 3310s Holley 750 4160 *REMAN* @ $184.95
    KITHO 80770 750 Street Avenger kit @ $392.95

You can also go to Summit Racing
    www.summitracing.com
They have a vast selection to choose from:

    EDL 9971 Edelbrock 750 qjet *REMAN* @ $359.88
    Jet35001 streetmaster 750 qjet @ $349.95
    Jet36001 Streetmaster 800 qjet @ $339.69
A selection of SUMMIT REMAN qjets each for around $300
    HO-6210 Holley 650 double pumper spreadbore @ $339.95 ( might be a little small for a 455 )

Alternatively if you want to go to a squarebore carb they can offer DEMON road demon jr 725 with manual choke in single or dual inlet @ $259.95

Obviously you will have shipping charges and taxes on top of these prices, but I'm sure there will be something to suit you from that selection
    Best of luck
    Malc

    Cool

    Thanks man,
damn, that are a lot of carbs to choose from but the biggest question is, what will suit my needs?
My engine is a completely rebuild 1970 455, which should produce around 370bhp, what I want is a little more hp in the middle rev-range (around 3000 rpm) and loads of torque through the entire rev-range but especially at low rpm.
Should I opt for an aluminium intake too? or would the original one still be good enough?

    Your help is much appreciated,

    Greetings,

    Koos,
I think if I were you I would keep your factory manifold and opt for the Jet model 36001. This keeps the car looking original whilst giving the little bit extra performance the Jet carbs offer. The price is also right.
    Best of luck,

    Cool

    Thanks Malc.

I have a question though, I see that Jet carb has an electric choke, how do I convert from automatic choke to electric choke?
And if I'll buy one online how do they know for what type of engine that carb will be, I quess they can't be same for a lot of different engines, I mean the size of jets and stuff like that.
Carb is interesting though, I quess I'll take one if rebuilding my old carb is too expensive to my likes.

    Thanks again,
    Koos
