I inherited my granpa's 82 regal. It has a worn out V-6 in it. I have a 283 Chevy small block that I would like to swap into the car. Is this possible? What obstacles might I encounter? If this is extremely difficult what other V-8s might I consider?
Lurch,
If you go with the Chevy engine, you will also have to swap the transmission as the bolt patterns are different. That year Regal would be a perfect swap for a 307 Olds V-8. The Chevy engine would also be a good swap if you want to do the trans at the same time. Either way, you would be best finding a "donor" car like a Monte Carlo as you will need all the brackets etc. To be honest with you, if the car is in nice condition you will be way ahead of the game, money wise, by getting a remanufactured V-6 and just swapping out the present engine. They actually ran pretty good if I remember correctly. I rented a 81 or 82 Regal for a 2000 mile trip back in 1982 and did not realize it was a V-6 till the first time I checked the oil about 1000 miles into the trip. Would have sworn it was a V-8
