Cool

we have a 1989 buick regal. It just started stalling out for no reason every 5 blocks
it acts like it flooded out cause after 5 mins you could start it and get another 5 blocks.

So my hubby replaced the fuel pressure regulator.
now it sounds wonderful but he stalled out on the way hime from work.
20 blocks sat for 11 hours then died 10 blocks from home.

while fixing the regulator he found a small leak in a radiator hose. that seems to be causing a small vacuum. Please help some one we have a long distance trip coming up that we can't get out of and i would like to get there without stalling.

this site gives me HOPE that we can make it without stalling.

a 'vacuum leak' refers to gaskets somewhere in the intake path leaking raw air into the fuel/air mixture. either past (or in) the carb or past the Mass Air Flow sensor which causes the fuel metering system to lean the motor out.

you can search for vacuum leaks by spraying the edges of the intake manifold / carb / joints in the intake path with starter fluid (NOT the air cleaner). if the engine speeds up, you've got a vacuum leak at that point.

it's good to have found the radiator hose leak butt i don't think that's causing your stalling problem.

i'm not familiar with the 89s, i assume that's all computer controlled FI, right? you might want to check the air flow sensor.

I've also heard/read about spraying wd40 around the intake manifold and all the "other" gaskets,
to see if/where the is a vacum leak that allows
too much air IN...which throws off the air/fuel
mixture. Hope it helps? - Good Luck
