this question goes out to any fellow tech's who can help me here:
my buddy recently blew up his 3.8 in his lesabre, and we're changing motors.
the problem is that since one of the rods are busted, the crank wont turn more than about 5 degrees either way, so i cant get at the torque converter bolts. i've come up with 2 ways to solve this problem, and both are more work than i want to do.
1st is to raise the motor and take off the oil pan, remove the offending part and then continue,
2: take the engine and tranny out together, separate them then work at the TC bolts.
which would be the best way? or does anyone have a better way?
Thanks a lot for the help
Ben
If I was doing it, and I have been in the situation several times, I would pull the tranny first. Just let the converter hang on the flywheel. It will make a mess when all the fluid comes out, but it is a pretty easy job.
Just my opinion,
