no reverse

1984 buick regal limited car sat for 3years started once 1 year ago 45000 original miles needs new exaust and breaks oher than yhat it may need valve seals puffs a little 1st thing at startup only has reverse after 30 second delay but nice and smooth does anyone know whats wrong

guess its time to have that trans rebuilded.
you did check the oil level in there did ya?

checked trans fluid level it where it belongs just didnt no if it just sitting for 3 years would have gummed it up

it could be, just to make sure give it a new filter and oil and see what happens.
did the tranny fluid smell funny like burned?
or did it have an unusual color?
