I'm having the same problem with a 1973 455 and have also replaced the water pump/coolant hoses. Did you ever figure this out?
CAN ANY ONE HELP?? I HAVE A 1973 455 THAT HAS DEVELOPED A WATER LEAK IN THE FRONT AT THE GASKET AREA AT THE OIL PAN. I HAVE REPLACED THE WATER PUMP REPLACED THE FRONT COVER WITH A NEW ONE REMOVED THE COVER AND RESEALED AGAIN AND YET STILL LEAKS. WATER SEAMS TO COME FROM BETWEEN THE OIL PAN AND FRONT COVER IT DOES NO GET INTO THE OIL PAN. I HAVE USED THREAD SEAL ON THE BOLTS TO SEAL THEM THE MOTOR HAS NEVER GOT HOT OR OVERHEATED THE MOTOR HAS ABOUT 500 MILES ON IT AFTER THE REBUILD.

Sent my oil off to have it analyzed and found coolent in the oil. I noticed coolent on my garage floor but couldn't quite make out where the leak was coming from. Did a pressure test on the cooling system and saw fluid coming out of the timing cover. New timing cover gasket didn't help so I got a new timing cover as the old one was warped. The new cover and gasket did the trick.
Just my story.
