Any mid-size GM from 1964 - 67 is a bolt in with the exception of the U-joints possibly being different. 1968 - 72 will bolt in but are 3 inches wider. A rear out of an earlier GTO is standard 3.23 ratio which would be a nice replacement for towing.
I'm starting work on my '65 Buick Special Deluxe Wagon. I will be installing a 455 and Turbo 400 Transmission. My question is the 10 bolt rear end gears are burled and sing (loud). For a tow vehicle, what recommendation for replacement ring/pinion, carrier, axle ratio or complete rear end would be recommended? If a complete rear end, what would interchange without changing mounting brackets, trailing arms and such?

I'm working on the exact same thing, Special Wagon w/455, th400, 3.23 posi rear. I had Carmen Faso build a rear end for it. Its great.
