69 Buick console shifter

Installing a stock original console/shifter in 69 Buick GS 400. Shifting cable seems way too long? Does cable approach trans lever from rear or from front? Thanks, Ed

I'm not absolutly sure about this one, but I think that the linkage ussualy aproches from the front of the vehicle, just like the console shifter.
