Hey guys, new here! I just acquired what I think is a 1964 225 V6 motor out of a Jeep. Can anyone verify the numbers for me? The ID on the manifold side makes it a 1964. The "K" in the serial number on the front of the block matches but what is the "A" mean and the suffix "b"?

    Block casting: 1358435 Dauntless
    Block serial number: AK100421b
block ID @ manifold: KH 075

Also, looking for an engine builder in the Flint MI area or N. Detroit suburbs that is experienced on Buick V-6.

    Thanks

All the numbers indicate the engine was originally installed in a 1964 Buick. The engine serial number was the same as the VIN that year.

The A indicates a series 4000 Special car with a V-6 engine. The last 6 characters indicate the individual car's serial number, the first car being #001001. For that reason, could the last character be a distorted 6 or 8?

The numbers do not match with Jeep VIN or V-6 engine code numbers from the mid-60s. 1964 would be a bit too early for the V-6 to show up in a Jeep as original equipment.

    Unhappy Similair engine, different problem

hey all. I have a Dauntless 225 from a commando. I looked the casting number up on earlycj5.com and matched the casting number with engine description. the number is 1358435. im told that this ia between a 1963 and 1965 engine. the head numbers match for one of the heads (1358676) but not the other (992326). I beleive that the head with the 992326 casting number may be from a later Dauntless v-6 engine. I believe this because one cylinder constantly does not have compression. The rocker arms are interchangeable and the best set of the rocker arms does not work on this head. Can anyone help??????

if the problem is in the rocker configuration you should be having problems on a lot more than one cylinder.

have you taken the head off?

yeah. believe it or not the other 4 rocker arms have about 1/4 inch wear, while the one that constantly does not get compression is new (my guess is that the old rockers wore out). I went to sacramento the other day and got 2 matching heads, rockers, and push rods. Now I have good compression (115+) in all six cylinders. These heads are in a little worse shape, so i will let them soak in a hot tank for a while then re-seat all the valves. thanks for your help, i still cant believe that someone put two different heads on that v-6..... lol
