Thread: Ugly Noise

    Question

Help please. I have a ’67 Buick Skylark with a 340-4 motor. Runs great, nice smooth idle, it really purrs. Until you get up to about 70 mph. Then the noise starts. Metallic clinking, sounds like passenger side, high up in the motor. Speeds up and slows down with RPM. Idle is then rough, and noise is still present. After driving more, at speeds around 50 MPH, the noise disappears, engine sounds great and idles smooth. Any idea what the problem is?

    Thanks

How about a plug wire finding a way to ground? Look for a spot where the wires are touching a ground or running parallel and less than about 1/2 inch apart.
