Sounds like your check ball valve on your carb start switch is sticking, you might try spraying carb cleaner up in the vave area and check for any vacumn leaks--this located were the two wires are hooked up on the carb. Good luck.
Ok.....I have the 1955 buick 4 Door Special with the step on the gas starter system.
Sometimes, the starters will try to engage while driving down the street, when I press on the gas. Does anyone else have this problem and what is the best way for a permanent fix. I would love to keep it as a step on starter, but need to know if new solenoids are availabel from anywhere

Got some carb cleaner and sprayed the whole solenoid area down to loosen things up because it wouldn't start without starter staying engaged.
Once it started and didn't the starter didn't stay engaged, I was able to warm the car up and actually bring the engine speed to abotu 1500rpm and use quick sprays of carb cleaner to clean out the carb.
The car is running like a dream!!
thanks for the support
