Thread: '53 Special Fuel Pump Rebuild

1. #1

Post

Does anyone know where I can get instructions on rebuilding a fuel pump for a '53 Special? The Chilton manual I have doesn't have the info I need. Someone rebuilt it previously and we don't think all the little valves were put in correctly.

Thanks,
Andy

Hey Andy!

How U Doin'

Usually when you get a kit they have instructions included

If someone has some hand hopefully they would forward them to You.

I'm sure a 1953 Buick Service Manual would have instructions and illustrations.

Where did you get the Chiltons?

I bought a service manual for my 56. It is the best money I ever spent. It covers everything from soup to nuts.

I bought the Chilton Manual off ebay because it was cheaper than the GM service manual. I guess you get what you pay for. The kit I bought did not come with instructions. I've been told that a Motors Manual would have instructions. I'll have to check that out or buy a service manual I guess.

Thanks,
Andy

Andy,
The 53 Buick Shop Manual is a supplement to the 52 manual. For the Special model fuel pump(AC model DG), the 53 manual refers the reader back to the 52 manual. I can send you the data from the 52 if you still need it.

The MOTOR's manuals from the 50s do have some good fuel pump rebuilding info including exploded parts views which are not in the shop manuals. A quick look at the 58 MOTOR's manual shows a bunch of AC fuel pump service info, but nothing for the DG. Will check some parts books from back then too for information.
