Thread: Dirt in Fuel Filter

  1. #1

    Post

The fuel filter on my '53 Special was plugged up something fierce and the car wouldn't stay running. I cleaned it up and the problem persists. Is there another filter in the fuel tank? It still starves for gas and the filter on the carb is nice and clean.

    Thanks,
    Andy

There is a screen (sock) on the fuel pickup in the tank. If you are sure that it is a fuel related problem you may want to check your fuel pump and carb before dropping the tank to inspect the pickup. You may also want to blow out your fuel lines to remove any obstructions.

Have your tank boiled out. Also check for rusty lines.
