    Hi, I've got a 54 special with no 4a2029337 located on welded plate on LH door pillar. The last time it was registered was in CA., 1982. Vin no. V6206134 on the registration. I'm trying to get the vehicle registered to me, but dmv must first verify vin number. Question: Do you know where the frame number is on 54 special?
    Thanks in advance, Dave

    The number on the registration is a 54 Special motor number I'd check opposite the dip stick on the block for this number. Didn't Calif. use the motor numbers for registration at one time?

    Dave,
    4A2029337 works as a vin. It has the correct number of characters and breaks down as follows:
    4= Special (40 Series)
    A=1954 Model Year
    2= South Gate, CA (Assembly Plant)
    029337= Production Sequence

    Judd is probably on to something with the motor number idea.
