Thread: 1951 - 1952 Dynaflow Swap Question

    Question

Does anyone know if there were any changes in the Dynaflow trannies, cases, mounts or bellhousing patterns between 51 and 52? I've got a 52 Special with a shot tranny. I know a guy that has a freshly rebuilt Dynaflow with 0 miles that came out of a 51 Special. Anyone know if this is a straight swap? I don't know why it wouldn't be, but I want to make sure. I don't want to have to modify anything if I can get away with it. Thanks!

I don't think you should have any problems with that, should bolt right in!

Hey thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, things just got a bit more complicated. Now my friend is back pedaling a bit and telling me he's not sure what series Buick this came out of. So, I guess my question now is this:

Are there any differences between the rear section of the tranny case between series 40 Specials, and the larger models? Someone told me once that the rear of the tranny was different between the smaller and larger models. Also, is the bell housing pattern any different between the smaller 263 motors to the 320? Thanks again for the help.

If the tails are different you should be able to swap them...
