Thread: B body spindles in a '65 Skylark

  1. #1

    Cool

    Guys,

I have some '78 Caprice front spindles with 11" discs that will fit my 14" rallye wheels on my '65 Skylark.

My question is the ball joints - I have been told the A body and B body ones do not interchange. Apparrently the advice is to use A body ball joints and ream out the hole on the B body spindle to accept the A body ball joint. Does any body know if this is correct or is there a better way?

    Many thanks all
    regards

    Nick,

The kits for this swap use the later lower ball joint cut down to the size of the A-body A-arm. Here is a link to some information about the swap. It should have everything you need.

    Dr Franckenbuick,

Thanks - interesting. Cutting down the bracket area of a B Body ball joint to fit the A Body upper and lower arms seems to be a better way to go than machining - expensive and tricky.

Are there any centering issues with this approach or do they use the same bolt/ rivet holes?

Is the Global West stuff more expensive than the regular GM replacement stuff - at $40 for a ball joint it looks so.

When you say 'later' - do you mean 'late seventies/ early eighties B body'?

Do you know, are the Global West ball joints the same as GM ones or are they specially designed for the swap?

    regards & thanks
