Hi Folks,
I have a 63 Wildcat convertible. When I accelerate there is a rough/harsh vibration above 35-40 mph. The harder I accelerate, the worse it gets. It's also evident under constsnt speed. Drivetrain Specialist told me it was the driveshaft binding at the slip joint. Apparently, Buick only allowed 3/4" to 1" of slip in x-frame cars. He said that any significant change in vehicle ride height would bind the shaft. There mat be some truth to this: I recently had the complete driveshaft rebuilt (new ball and seat, cv joint, checked for straightness, etc.) After installing the shft and driving for a few miles I had the exact same problem. Also, the rear u-joint has brinelling on two oppossing sides of the bearing surfaces of the joint. It looks like the needle bearings were flexing at an angle while the shaft was turning and have imprinted into the bearing surface. I need some advise from someone who has dealt with this problem. I'v got a $15,000.00 car and can't drive it except in the yard. This is most frustrating!
