    Cool

Can anyone tell me anything about this tranny? I have recently purchased a 1950 Buick Special Fastback. And am looking for some info on it.

What is it you want to know. It is an early two speed auto in a cast iron (heavy) case.

A 2 speed dynaflow? Hmmmmmmmmm, last I heard, it only had an infinite number of gear ratios. It is actually in low gear and high gear at the same time. It does not shift.

Low and high in a dynaflow are actually two different rarios. Low is good to about 55-60 MPH, so it is about the same ratio as the reverse.

    Wink

So the dynaflow is not a good tranny for some get up and go power?
What else works with the straight eight? I want to keep this car as original as I can, but I also want a little power to the car.
And thanks for the answers so far.

There were only two options in 1950. You either used the dynaflow or a three speed manual. The stick was quite a bit quicker off the line, but after 50-55MPH they were almost the same. The straight eight was not a fast engine, but they will run forever. I have a 40 that I have driven over 90,000 miles, and it is just like the watch : " It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'

    Unhappy

So the straight eight won't burn the tires? Hmmmm time to rethink the engine.

Did you have a quick look at the short article on hotrodding the straight 8 in our "shop". One option which should be easy is to move to the bigger 320 inch straight 8.

I agree the 320 is a good option, but it is 6 inches longer than the 248-263. They don't fit without major surgery.

We just got a link from a transmission adaptor outfit who builds adaptors for the straight 8 along with the nail head! Go to the website data base and look for Bendtsen's Transmission Adapters.
