Have some blocks that are causing confusion.
    1: casting # 1173201
    Top of block # 4G4010835
    2: casting # 1173201
    Top of block # 4G1051004
    3: No casting number
    Top of block # 7D8015761
    4: no casting #
    Top of block # 4D1083541
Can anyone assist, seem that some of thes numbers cross from 364 - 401?

Roger, the numbers with D in them are 1957 blocks. The numbers with G in them are 1960 blocks.

The blocks that start with 4 came from Specials (or from LeSabres on the 60s). The number starting with a 7 came out of a Roadmaster. All were 364 engines.

The 1173201 casting shows to be used on 1957-60 364 engines.

There should be another number nearby on the 60 blocks that will tell a little more about it. This is the engine production code number and will be something like L3G.

Click on the shop tab above and then click on Identify your Buick engine to see more. Also there is a section under shop on Nailhead casting numbers.

    Todd,
Thanks, I have a book that helped a little, but you have clarified all.
