Ok....my nailhead will nt be a super motor will not be super duper but will be somewhat hot.....do you think the Factory Duals or Headers would be better

From a performance perspective you can't beat the headers.

They do have drawbacks though. They are noisier, though many people like the sound. Because of heat and the fact that they cannot fit as close to the engine, they can have some drawbacks when fitting plugs when hot.

Regardless of using manifolds or headers a larger diameter dual exhaust with good flowing mufflers is a good idea.

Hey Robert,

How Ya' Doin!

In any event in regard to Factory Duals?

I don't think that they were available untill '56.

In order to put dual exhaust on the car you would have to cut a hole in the cross-member for the pipe to go through on the driver side ( the same manner in which the '56 was modified.
Also the driver side manifold is in the wrong direction where the exhaust fits.

You could put on some 56 dual exhaust manifolds which are quite larger ( I think that they will fit 264 vs. 322?) They manifolds were changed in '56 to accomodate dual exhaust and on the drivers side were designed to accommodate the steering box which was an obstruction in '54 & '55.

Headers would have to be custom made. I have heard of headers by ed but to find them or to have some custom made I don't think any increase in performance would be worth the effort and expense.

You could do the '56 modification and a set of glass packs or "Smithy's" and get the performance and sound effects you desire.
