Josh,
There were several different types of Nailhead starters. The pre 64 starters were longer since the ring gear was on the converter. The later starters were shorter as the ring gear was on the flexplate.
hi all,
curious about starter motor for my '63 401. found a rebuild one online, but the part numbers didin't match. the # on mine is Delco-Remy 1107221 313 13. the one for sale is Delco-Remy 1108450.
anyone know if there are any differences, or if this will work in my motor ('63 lesabre 401, bored 0.030").
thanks! josh
Josh,

so, this one for sale most likely won't work then?
Just ask them if it is for a Dyna-flow trans. Or have them send you a pic of the "snout." I can send you a pic of what the "snout" should look like. It has been my observation that gm had lots of p/n#'s for essentially the same thing. BTW, Northwest Speed Equipment has these rebuilt starters @ $55 plus a core charge. If you go that route, call Marty @ 503.697.0500.
