I'm dropping a 401 nailhead into my '56 Buick. I want to use the plug wire covers from my '56 on the 401 nailhead. The problem is the generator bracket on the 401 interferes with the plug covers. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!
Dan

I Think there is a Bracket for the plugs covers That will cure this Problem.
I have seen them on E-Bay Under the Listing Of Buick Nailhead

56 Hardtop

How Difficult is it to Put a 401 into a 56?
and still Retain the Torque Tube Enginering?
They Torque Tube Drivetrain lasted untill 1961.
What Other Modifications have to have been made to accomodate this upgrade?

This may be a little late, but, use trans that will fit to motor, the 56 will not. 57 to 61 should work, but check the torquetube end. You may have to mix and match parts. You should be able to adapt the 322 motor brackets to the 401 block. The block may also be wider at the mount, it is at the top. You can use the 322 exhaust manifolds if there is room to open the ports, I have put 401's on a 322 that way. Good Luck-Jim

Hi jrlemke,

Thanks for taking the time to post. You sure make it sound easy enough to do. Puting a 401 in a 56 is a good step forward to hotrod the 56. How long will the Dynaflow stand up? You certainly can do more tricks with the 401 and you have more H.P. and Torque to begin with.
