Recently acquired a 364 nailhead having casting numbers from 1959-1960. The engine came with heads and pan removed. Stock stroke, but bore measures 4.250+.030, or 4.28 inches. Has chrome goodies, dual point distributor, 3 deuce Offy intake. Fuel manifold at carbs had big pressure gauge, with about 36 inches of hose with electric fuel pump at end having fuel tank intake screen. Most curious is crankshaft - it has tops of counterweights ground down to allow clearance to piston skirt. The crank has steel plates welded to sides of counterweights for rebalance.
Any guess what/how this engine was used? Drag car?
Worried about thin cylinder walls and crankshaft -would you use this engine for street use? Could/should it be sleeved back to standard bore? Anyone have a stock crank/rods?
Thanks,
John B
Sound interesting!
The bore on a 364 is 4.125
The bore on a 401 is 4.1875
Could it actually be a 401 avaliable in '59? There are casting numbers in the buicks.net shop.
