What thickness is the headgasket that you installed? Did you fill the lifters with oil and prime them prior to there installation? If the lifters are not pumped up with oil this could be the reason for your gap you are experiencing.
I'm currently rebuilding the 401 in my 64 Wildcat. I'm reinstalling the right rocker arm assembly. I have torqued the assembly to factory specs & for some odd reason there is still a gap between the rocker arm lobes & the push rods. They aren't going all the way up in there . Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

What has changed?
Have you milled the heads or block?
Are you using the same heads as before?
Are you using the same pushrods?
Did you change lifters? Some lifters have a different height.
Are you using a remanufactured cam with a smaller base circle?

Make sure the base of your rocker arm supports are all the way down on the dowel pins in the head. These can bind and hold the shafts up.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I quickly realized after comparing a new push rod to one of my old push rods that Kanter Auto Parts sent me the wrong set. I sent them back & they sent me the correct ones. I did get the car running but she's running pretty rough. I'm hoping all it needs is the points changed. Also, some white smoke is coming out my exhaust pipes. Any suggestions on how to resolve either one of these issues? Thanks!
bm,
White smoke is usually water, but might just be condensation from the car sitting. I would not worry too much until you get it up to operating temp for a while. Just keep a good eye on the temp gauge.
The rough running could also bee from sitting ... old fuel etc. Fill it up with 93 octane and a can of fuel system cleaner and drive it a while. It might clear up.

Thanks BillK for your ideas. That would make sense. I will try your suggestion about the 93 octane & fuel system cleaner.
