1-I have a question concerning whether or not my car is a real
Gran Sport...I found some info on a website that supports that it is
NOT....I was hoping you could confirm or deny for me....

The article I saw stated that on the vin tag it should read:
4-Buick
46-Gran sport or 44 for skylark v8.
67-2 door convertible

Mine reads 44467 which according to the above would mean it is a skylark and
not a GS......help!!

2-The tag on the firewall reads:

04C
ST-65-44467 FB 181440
BODY PAINT
TR 154 N1

W-2X6P-4FS-5KW

3-There is also a stamp on the engine block that reads:
B1374603-E

I don't have any clue wht that engine number means, can you help? Thanks!

i checked the # from your engine and it's not a known buick or chevy V-8 casting #

where did you pull this number from?
the casting # i believe is generally on the back end of the block, facing up, right behind the passenger side cyl. head.
shouldn't have any letters with it either i don't think.

The GS did not have a vin code in 65. The GS vin code began in 66. In 65, the Skylark V8 codes for the hardtop, post and convertible were shared between the GS and 300 powered Sklarks. Your vin is for a convertible V8 Skylark. It is correct for the GS, but also for the 300 powered Skylark. Usually you can tell the 65-67 GS by the boxed frame, but all Buick A-body convertibles from that era had the boxed frame. That is not going to help in this case.

The # you gave from the engine is a head casting # for a 401/425 engine. It was made for several years including 65, but they were not specific to the GS or any other car for that matter.

If the original engine is still in the car, it will be coded LR followed by several #s on the passenger side lifter valley pan rail in the front of the engine (under thermostat housing on the upward facing edge of the block). It will also have an 8 digit on the drivers side edge of the pan rail. These will match the last 8 digits of the vin # in the drivers side door opening. If the #s do not match, you know that either the engine has been replaced or it was not a GS.

The GS automatic trans has an NK code and a 65 date code on the servo cover. This will tell you it has a GS only trans if you find the motor has been replaced. The GS also had a 3.08 gear ratio rear end in the automatic trans cars in 65. The 2 series gears were generally for 300 powered cars.

That should get you started!
