Hello, correct terminology is not my strength so I hope to get my point across. I have a 1969 skylark convertible. The factory wiring is intact and functioning from the 'plug-in point' under the dash. But the generic toggle switch is spliced into the factory wires. I am hoping to find a replacement harness from the switch to the 'plug-in' under the dash, but I have had no luck with google. Anybody have one for sale? Any advice from you all? Maybe a reputable aftermarket company? HELP!!!!
Attached is a view of the convertible top switch wiring harness from behind the dash. The harness is fairly simple as far as those things go. It appears to be a small separate harness added on top of the main harness. It only has 4 wires that go to three places around the dash: switch, fuse block, body wiring connector going to pump motor.
Not sure what pieces are missing or damaged besides the original switch. If the 3-pin socket connector is there loose under the dash, that plugs on to pins on the back of the original switch.
The harness would be easy to make if the connectors are available. It would probably be best to contact a firm that makes harnesses for classic cars. The original GM part number of the harness is 6295444. It was used on '68-69 Buick A-body convertibles. Hopefully someone has made one before and can provide the connectors. If not, someone may be able to make one using what's left of the original for a sample. We can search around for some harness suppliers to get more info.
The switch is a GM part no 1231085. It was used for the power top switch on '69-72 Buick A-body conv, the power tailgate window motor switch on '69-72 Buick A-body wagon, and the power antenna switch on the '69 Riviera.
