    A question about the chassis plate.

    I got a picture of the chassis plate on our Skylark. I think I can figure most of it out. But I am a little unsure about getting all of it correct. I would appreciate any help I can get.

    4C
    ST 65-44469 BODY BF 2069
    TR 130 PAINT HH A
    ACC. 24240

    4C = build date = April (4) 1965, third week (C)

    44469 = Fisher body style number
    4 = Buick
    44 = Skylark V8
    69 = 4-door thin pillar sedan

    BODY BF 2069
    BF = built at Fremont, CA (plant code for Fremont is Z in the VIN)
    2069 = 2,069th 44469 built at Fremont

    Trim 130 = Green Cloth and Vinyl, available on styles 44369, 44469

    Paint code HH A = solid Seafoam Green Metallic, with Regal Black wheels (A)

    24240 = batch or sequence number (also found on the build sheet, but not an option code)

    It was the batch or sequence number and the BF for body that through me off. I totally ignored the possibility of Fremont, since the Z wasn't on the chassis plate. Any thoughts on why it says BF rather than Z?

    it's not unusual for the chassis plate to have a different designation for the factory code than is used in the VIN. two letter plant codes are typical on the plate, especially prior to the 1980s.

    My guess is that Fisher was responsible for the trim tag and Buick was responsible for the VIN tag, and since Fisher and Buick are separate companies they didn't always do things exactly the same way and thus Buick only allocated one digit in the VIN for the plant code and Fisher didn't have that limitation.
