    248 engine identification.

I got a 248 engine in a swap. I think it maybe a 39 or newer. It came from a guy (who passed) and he had a 41 sedan with this as a spare engine. My ‘38’ engine has the ID numbers above the starter and just below the lifter area in the casting boss. This engine has the casting boss just forward of the distributor and just below the area where the ignition wires go to go to the plugs. The ID number is 431 (or 4)97425. It definitly pre war and not after. Can anyone help me ID this engine?

    Looks like a series 1937 series 40.
