Stage 1 registry starts with the 1969 Model, as Buick never made a 1968 GS Stage 1.

    1968 - Stage 1

Yep, thks. Just been in contact with Marco from Stage1 register. The register only accounts for factory made Stage 1 cars.
In 1968 the Stage 1 option wasn't factory made. It was a dealer option.
According to "experts" a number of some 25 cars were sold with the Stage 1 dealer option in 1968.
My car is fitted with an original 400-4 1968 engine. The documentation/pictures from previous owners declares that the engine has matching numbers and in fact is fitted with Stage 1 modifications.
But.....someone could have modified the engine years after delivery from plant in Kansas, MO. Unfortunately I'm not in possession of factory documents regarding the Stage 1 upgrade.

Also I'm not aware of how the upgrade was performed in 1968? Was it from the factory or was the upgrade made at the local car dealer?

So, guess I just need to dig a little deeper in search for proper documentation.

Did you buy the car recently? As I recall, a gentleman (Kul?) in Denmark bought one about 4 years ago, possible this is the same car.

Stage 1 parts became available about mid year 1968. You could buy the parts over the counter at the dealership and install yourself, or have the dealer install them. Factory installation in a 68 was not available.

yeah, unfortunately the Sloan Museum has very few years on record ... and 1968 ain't one of em.

is there any possibility for you to find the original dealer? it might still be around. and while i doubt they would have kept the records this long, who knows? they might have been impressed enough to have sold one of the first Stage kits in the US to have made note of it.

Yes, I bought the car July this year from Kurt in Aarhus, Denmark. A fine car with lots of documentation but just without the upgrade documents.
I wasn't aware that Kurt had been active in this forum. So he might have been through all this previously.
Maybe I should ring him instead.

    Thks for the interesting links.
I know the former owner Kurt tried to localize the last owner in US Mr. R.T. in Georgia (sold the car to Denmark in 2009) without luck. So guess it will be very difficult to find the original dealer. But...never say never
